Preheat your grill or a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Grill the hot dog sausages for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are heated through and have grill marks.
Alternatively, you can boil the sausages in a pot of water for about 5-7 minutes.
Spread a little butter on the inside of each hot dog bun.
Place the buns on the grill or in the skillet and toast for about 1-2 minutes until they are golden brown and slightly crispy.
Place a grilled hot dog sausage in each toasted bun.
Top with your desired condiments and toppings. Common toppings include ketchup, mustard, sweet relish, chopped onions, sauerkraut, shredded cheese, and chili.
