Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) fresh fish fillets (such as snapper, tuna, or mahi-mahi), cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 1 cup (240 ml) fresh lime juice
  • 1 cup (240 ml) coconut milk
  • 1 large tomato, diced
  • 1 small cucumber, diced
  • 1 red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Marinate the Fish

In a large bowl, combine the fresh fish cubes and lime juice.

Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until the fish is opaque and "cooked" by the lime juice.

Prepare the Vegetables

While the fish is marinating, prepare the diced tomato, cucumber, red onion, red bell pepper, and green bell pepper.

Combine the Ingredients

Drain the marinated fish, discarding the lime juice.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the marinated fish, diced tomato, cucumber, red onion, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, and green chilies (if using).

Add Coconut Milk

Pour the coconut milk over the fish and vegetable mixture.

Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Mix gently to combine all the ingredients.

Serve

Transfer the Ota Ika to a serving dish.

Garnish with fresh cilantro or parsley if desired.

Enjoy your meal!
