Rinse the fonio in a fine-mesh strainer under cold running water to remove any dust or impurities.
In a medium saucepan, bring 1 1/2 cups of water to a boil.
Add the fonio and salt to the boiling water.
Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for about 5 minutes. Fonio cooks quickly, so it should be ready in a short time.
Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes.
Fluff the fonio with a fork to separate the grains.
