Ingredients

  • 1 cup maize meal (cornmeal)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, for sweetness)
  • 1/2 cup sour milk or buttermilk (optional, for tanginess)

Instructions

Prepare the Mixture

In a large saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add the salt.

Gradually stir in the maize meal, mixing continuously to prevent lumps.

Cook the Mixture

Reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan. Cook the maize meal mixture, stirring frequently, for about 20-30 minutes until it thickens and becomes smooth.

Add Optional Ingredients

If using sugar, stir it in to add a touch of sweetness.

For a tangier flavor, mix in the sour milk or buttermilk.

Finish the Dish

Continue to cook for an additional 5 minutes after adding optional ingredients. Stir well to combine.

Serve

Spoon the Motoho into bowls. It can be served hot as a breakfast dish, a side, or a comforting main course.

Enjoy your meal!
