Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup water (adjust as needed)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Add the cold butter pieces and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Gradually add water, mixing until the dough comes together. You may need a little more or less water depending on the flour and humidity.

Roll Out the Dough

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly until smooth.

Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll out each portion into a thin circle, about 1/8 inch thick.

Cook the Flatkaka

Heat a griddle or non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.

Place one rolled-out dough circle onto the hot griddle. Cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until light brown spots appear and the flatbread is cooked through.

Remove from the griddle and place on a plate. Cover with a clean towel to keep warm. Repeat with the remaining dough circles.

Serve

Flatkaka can be served warm or at room temperature. It’s traditionally enjoyed with butter, smoked lamb, or other savory toppings.

Enjoy your meal!
